Why does paula creamer wear pink

Awards and Honors:. A California girl, Paula Creamer took up the sport at age 10 and quickly developed into a top player at the junior level. This followed by a year her membership on the U. Junior Solheim Cup team.

Creamer's first significant notice among the greater golf world - outside of junior golf - started coming in when she was That year she tied for 13th at the U.

Women's Open. She turned pro and joined the tour Creamer had a great LPGA rookie season in , winning twice, posting 11 Top 10s and finishing second on the money list. The first win came at the Sybase Classic, four days before she graduated high school. Creamer was 18 years, 9 months, 17 days old at the time, making her, at that time, the third-youngest winner in LPGA history. And her second victory that year was at the high-dollar Evian Masters in France.

Despite having just one year to accumulate points, Creamer easily qualified for the U. Solheim Cup team. Then she led the team to victory, earning the most points for the Americans with a record. In Creamer posted even more top 10s 14 , but it was a frustrating year for her in some ways. It is unlikely any other LPGA player would dare use a pink ball.

But at last week's major there were a couple trying out yellow-green balls. In a sport noted for its strict rules and a strong sense of etiquette, it is perhaps a little surprising that the golfing establishment does not have a problem with coloured balls. But you can use whatever colour you want, as long as they don't make funny noises. The first male professional golfer to win a PGA event with a non-white ball was American Wayne Levi when he triumphed at the Hawaiian Open in with yellow his colour of choice.

Perhaps making a bigger impact on the golfing establishment later in the year was Jerry Pate who won the prestigious Players Championship using a bright orange ball.

Pate had enjoyed success with orange the previous year in South America where he won the Colombian Open in Bogota. It was the first time he had used an orange ball and it definitely worked. Pate described the experience later: "I made 23 birdies, three eagles and shot under. Every putt I hit with that orange ball went right into the hole.

After a brief flurry of popularity following Pate's success, the use of coloured balls has declined over the last couple of decades. It wasn't a raving success. Cink, despite sinking a foot birdie at the hole complained: "It's hard to see the black ball if you don't hit the green. There are no obvious advantages to using a yellow ball, although the makers claim it tends to produce a more relaxed state of mind. From budget to premium models, yellow golf balls are now available right across the performance and price spectrum.
