Where is muddy creek
Overall I would recommend doing it as a long day hike, taking all water you will need. Hiking is not the only option however! The best way to visit Muddy Creek may be via inflatable kayak, but this also may be the most difficult.
The float is only Class II, but timing your trip when there is enough water for floating is the crux. Typically the Muddy peaks during spring run-off toward the end of May or early June. Float season is generally only a couple of weeks at best, and levels can fluctuate wildly from day to day. Many of my friends have talked of epics dragging their inflatable kayaks or hardshells for miles when the river dropped on them.
Be warned! Between and cfs, it is still very hike-able, but bring an inner tube to float the deeper and narrower sections of the Chute. Above it could become difficult crossing some of the rocky rapids. For floating or canoeing , the river has been done as low as cfs with MUCH dragging.
It took some work to find it but it easy to get there bus to Silas creek to robin hood rd. The trail is straight and flat. This trail ends with a entrance to a private property bummer. I respected there sign and turned around. It would have been nice to be able to use that trail. Beautiful homes in the back ground. Try it take the kids I posted some pictures ,of how I saw the trail through my eyes. Enjoy, and get out and ride. The best exercise for anything or ailment.
Despite the heat my fam and I thoroughly enjoyed this trail. Just the right length for beginners! Early morning or late afternoon is the best time to ride this trail, I have seen deer, wild turkey, and turtles. Along the way you will pass a private horse pasture, and Meadowlark school just behind the Soccer fields close to one of the 2 trail heads. Btw, this is where the one and only porta john is on the trail. The trail is asphalt and well maintained which makes for a smooth ride, word of caution while riding across the foot bridges.
There are yellow poles at each end of the bridges, a couple of the poles have been torn down leaving jagged metal a few inches protruding out of the ground. I give this trail 3 stars because although very short in length it does offer a great opportunity to see wildlife. In my opinion, N Carolina has a long way to go to catch up to other states when it comes to bike trails.

This is the same rock that forms the cliffs and buttes around Sedona, and in this and other places on the Colorado Plateau it has created many imposing gorges but they are not usually narrow. The Muddy Creek drainage system has the best slot canyons in this type of rock.
Mines at Tomsich Butte. There are two possible starting points for the hike, a few miles either upstream or downstream of the Chute at the only two places where the creek is not cliff-bound and so approachable by road. Both are quite remote and over an hour's drive from a paved highway. Most people use the northerly trailhead at Tomsich Butte , an interesting region with disused uranium mines dating from the s - s.
Numerous shafts and tunnels were bored into the deeply colored, angular cliffs and buttes either side of the creek, and various old stone shacks and mining equipment are still scattered over the hillsides. The other option is Hidden Splendor Mine , downstream of the narrows and just inside the southern edge of the reef. This is also an area formerly used for uranium excavation and has cliffs of the same crumbling, multicolored rock from the Moenkopi, Chinle and Wingate strata.
There are other good slot canyons nearby, including Cistern , Ramp and Quandary. Collared lizard. The first leaves I at exit formerly and heads southwest across the flat land at the centre of the swell Sinbad Country.
After 14 miles, at a place called Tan Seep, it meets the other road - the Temple Mountain route that starts from UT 24 and is also used to reach Goblin Valley and the upper end of Crack Canyon. From the junction, an equally good road continues southwest over McKay Flat for 9 miles to another junction.
